Welcome to the Takazawa Collection website. There are five main parts to the site, each of which can be reached at any time by clicking on its icon on the left side of the web page. Your current location in the web site is identified by its English title below the icon. Text explanations and annotations to the materials are currently only available in English, but the bibliographies, browse and search tools, and other research aids include both Japanese characters and romanization.
The Introduction offers basic information about the site and the collection, plus technical papers concerning the assessment, preservation, and bilingual cataloguing of the collection.
Bibliographies contains bibliographies of the materials in the Takazawa Collection in kanji and rōmaji, with English annotations. There is a separate bibliography or finding aid for each type of material such as books, serials, clipping files, or audio-visual materials. In most cases these are organized topically, with appropriate sub-headings, rather than alphabetically. Each bibliography is put onto the website as soon as we have finished cataloguing, checking, and annotating the material. The serial and pamphlet bibliographies will include pictures of sample covers of the materials.
Browse and Search Tools include indexes of authors, publishers, and keywords, in Japanese and English, to help you search the collection. We do not currently offer a free text search box because of the language complexities involved. You may also search the collection by sub-collection or date, or from the outline bibliography originally.
Social Movements Research Aids will include a bilingual dictionary of names and name variations, annotated bilingual directories of major protest events and social movement organizations, specialized bibliographies, and external links to other useful sites.
Access to the Collection contains user policies, request forms, and contact information for the collection.
